Program Mission
To promote awareness, understanding, and respect of Minnesota's natural environment by developing a corps of well-informed citizens dedicated to conservation education and service within their communities
Program Description (include how it meets membership criteria)
Study the outdoors and make a difference.A Minnesota Master Naturalist Volunteer completes a 40-hour, hands-on course with expert instructors and fellow learners, studying natural history, environmental interpretation, and conservation stewardship. Participants receive detailed course manuals and certification of accomplishment. Final certification comes with the completion of 40 hours of volunteer service. To maintain Minnesota Master Naturalist Volunteer status, 40 hours of volunteer work is required each year thereafter.

Curriculum (general objectives and topics, types of instructors, and planned time frame)
3 modules, student text for each, 40 hrs of class & field each: Big Wood, Big Rivers; Prairies & Potholes; Northwoods--Great Lakes. Overall goals = To increase knowledge of Minnesota’s natural and cultural history; to increase your ability to convey this knowledge in a variety of education settings and to a variety of audiences; To increase your ability to serve as a steward of the land; To help you become more knowledgeable, concerned and proactive about the natural environment; to help you become a life-long and self-directed learner. Big Woods classes = Introduction to the Natural History of Minnesota’s Deciduous Forest; introduction to Minnesota Master Naturalist, ecology, and Minnesota’s biomes; Rocks, Ice, and Dirt; Plant & animal Communities; interpreting; water and its flora & fauna; human impacts; capstone project
